Meet the Founder — Fractional HR Consultant Utah
I'm Angie Johnson.
I'm a people strategist and two-time business owner who has spent 15 years building the HR infrastructure and placing the leadership talent that lets companies scale without breaking.

I hold the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR / SHRM -SCP) certification — the highest credential in the field — and a B.S. in Communication Studies from the University of Idaho. I've studied AI in HR and attended executive conferences and train other HR professionals on ethical and effective use of AI in the workplace. (Look out for my next webinar!) I've helped hundreds of companies across the wasatch front in Salt Lake City with their people priorities. I've worked in industries including manufacturing, healthcare, customer service, technology, finance, and professional services.
I've been named one of the Top 50 Women Leaders in Salt Lake City (2025) and serve on the Board of Salt Lake SHRM.

I run two businesses: Elle Mathis & Co., a fractional CHRO practice for growth-stage companies, and Patrice & Associates, Salt Lake City, a national executive search firm. Together, they solve both sides of the same problem: the people infrastructure and the leaders to run it.

UTAH HR CONSULTANT AND HR LEADER
I didn't start in an HR office. I started at age 15 at Wendy's International. Dressed in blue gingham with red yarn hair, handing out Frosties. Yes, that Wendy. And something clicked for me in that moment: the idea of getting people to fall in love with what they do.

I recruited all my friends to come work alongside me. Then I helped Target recruit students from my school. I didn't have a title or a strategy just a natural instinct for matching people to opportunity. Turns out, that instinct was the whole career.
​
After college, I moved to the phones, recruiting physicians. Cold-calling taught me to learn how to read people fast and connect them to the right fit and hone in on proven processes. I fast-tracked to Rookie of the Year at VISTA Staffing Solutions, placing more days than any new recruiter on the team. That scrappiness never left me.
​
From there, I moved into HR operations of one, recruiting and managing HR for government contracts, scaling from 50 full-time employees to over 300 with myself, strong processes, and a part-time assistant in under six months. Then Spherion came calling. I ran a full-service staffing and HR practice, grew revenue by $4.5M+, negotiated a $2.5M contract, and turned a workforce running at 75% attrition into one running under 8%. I did it by building real systems, optimizing work flow, and cutting out redunancies not reacting to problems or hiring extra headcount.

That track record led me to InMoment, a global CX SaaS company with ~1,200 employees across the US, EMEA, and Australia, where I served as Global Head of HR (CHRO), reporting directly to the CEO.
What happened there:

Delivered $15M+ in cost savings through a structured, HR-led restructure across North America

Built the company's first-ever performance management system — 90%+ participation in year one

Integrated a reverse acquisition and completed due diligence for the company to be acquired — twice. (Data rooms became my second language. IYKYK.)
